High revs cold start

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve noticed on every cold start the revs will sit at 1000rpm for quite a while after the engine has warmed up. Sometimes an hour afterwards unless the engine is switched off.

If it’s switched off before fully heat up the revs would sit around 750 then rise up again.

Is this a normal thing as I can’t say I’ve noticed it sitting this high for so long on any previous cars. I’ve got a 1.6 tdi Cr

it's trying to get the engine up to operating temps quicker.

OR

it's trying to do a DPF regen - what type of journeys are you doing ?

did you have the AC on? this can raise the revs

First journey everyday is 25 miles of motorway, but even after doing that it still sits at that rpm till I switch off.

The AC is always on but as I said I’ve never noticed it before and my driving habits haven’t changed...

DPF regen happens at least once a day, sometimes more. The car is a taxi but generally a mix of town and motorway driving everyday.

What I have noticed also is during the regens it can run quite rough

It doesn’t do it when the temp is over 6 or 7 so i doubt it’s anything to worry about.

I had the same engine in my old Octavia but this newer one is definitely not as good lol
