Useless Extra's

Featured Replies

Someone please tell me what the benefits are in having Rain Sensing Wipers and an Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror. I know that we have moved on in car design and technology but for the life of me I cannot see what these do for the safety, ergonomics, aesthetics, function or energy saving in using a modern day vehicle. Please enlighten me

laziness comes to mind for both of them as rain sensing wipers means that you no,longer have to touch you wiper stalk and auto dimming mirrors means that you now donthave to flick the little tag on the mirror to stop being blinded by the car behind.

but other than a waste of money i cant see any point for them:)

Autodimming mirror for coolness????

In my 03 clio I had rain sensing wipers and light sensing headlights as standard.... and they were superb!!

its a lazy feature but all my mates were impressed when they noticed them. You only see these features on more expensive cars normally but I think renault were the first off the line adding them as standard on a basic clio.

You dont have to do anything regarding lights and wipers. its great.

I had an auto-dimming mirror on my BMW - you get that instead of indicators ;) - and always found it very useful. When I sold the car, and had to use my wife's Citroen for a couple of days, I was surprised by how much glare a "normal" mirror gave off.

I love my autodimming rear view mirror (which could be down to laziness) but the auto-dimming wing mirrors are better as there's no dip on standard ones :D Rain sensing wipers are a bit hit and miss and with Ombrello on the screen, I don't really need the wipers that much :D

on my 172 i loved the auto wipers and lights :)

Good point. As an aside I always think the dash lights dimmer is pointless .

I know it's not an extra, just seems defunct

It's useful - mine is definitely not on the full brightness as it's too bright, and I drive with lights on all the time so dimming it a tad isn't a bad thing :)

I find both of these very useful. The autodimming is so quick that I never get blinded by cars behind - shame they dont do a windscreen version for the ones coming towards you.

same with the wipers in drizzly sort of rain - was forever switching them on and off - not anymore. In reality we don't need any of the gadgets in a car to get us from A to B, but I still like them.
