Rear brake problems / compatibility

Recommended Posts

Last summer I replace both rear brake calipers as the drivers side was binding. Now however 7 months on the drivers side handbrake lever is seizing.

i have been in touch with the supplier (Ebay purchase) who has advised there is a 2 year warranty on the part, but it would need to be sent back to the manufacturer (through them). The issue I then have, this is my daily driver and I use it everyday.

To send this back I will need to find a temporary suitable replacement.

can anybody please advise on what other rear calipers I can use in the mean time.

its a mk1 Octavia vrs 53 plate.

thanks in advance.

Have you tried fitting audi return springs to the handbrake actuator arm on the caliper?.  They are so cheap its worth a try. Mine started to stick on the o/side, fitted the

return springs and problem went away. Sorry my pics vanished as i refused to pay Photo-Buckets new annual fee,(it used to be free).

This llink is my post with the Audi part numbers:-

Hi, yes I already have them fitted, but it hasn’t had any effect. My main issue is, it was a brand new caliper only 6months ago and has started to seize already. The lever is pretty stiff even after dosing in wd40.

The other side, also replaced at the same time is fine and moving freely.

But thanks for the suggestion. If I’m having problems now after this time frame it’s not gonna last long. I think my best bet is to send it back and get the manufacturer to either replace it or repair it.

its just annoying as I now have to find a temp replacement whilst I wait for this...

Ok,

The return spring mod has solved the sticking caliper for quite a few members but sadly wasnt to be for your car, the only other thing it could be is a sticky handbrake cable,

worth trying to see how easily it slides to and fro.

They are not that expensive, (a sod to fit) but fingers crossed, could save you some money if you decided to give it a try.

For your info:-  Part No: 1J0 - 609 - 721 AP (Handbrake Cable 1698mm long), does both sides.

Good Luck with sorting it out
