Been looking to top up my gearbox oil on the Octavia(2012) for a wee while now.

 

My question is I know there is the full plug by the driveshaft, but what socket/torx bot fits the plug? Went into Halfords to have a nosey but didn’t want to buy one until I knew the correct size.

My superb greenline 6spd is a 17mm hex (Allen). Unfortunately my box is one of those with a useless filler hole because it's mounted at at angle making it impossible to get a correct level by checking that way. You need to completely drain down, weigh the oil and fill up again through the reverse sensor hole.

 

A check on Etka with your VIN is probably the only real way of knowing which box you have. My 2005 Golf 5 speed has the same problem. Don't guess it.
