Octavia 2 FL 1.6 tdi dsg starting issue

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I bought myself a used Octavia 2012 1.6 tdi dsg, and i love the car. The only issue i have with this car is that is cranks a long-ish time, a few seconds longer than usual 1.6 tdi-s,owned a 1.6tdi seat before. I cranks great just the time before it start is 3 times longer than it should be, only sometimes it fires up right away... And rarly happens when cranking it cuts off(stops) and suddenly fires up with no problem.

The car has fresh oil, with all filters changed including fuel filter. There are no warning lights on the dashboard. I always pour premium diesel in the car, last month I put fuel cleaner dextrone in the car, and still same issue.

The car runs great while driving and engine feels smooth, pulls really nice, and there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I guess that the fuel pressure is not good when starting the car, maybe because some sensors are bad(should that be shown as a error code on the dash?).

And I have tried to start the car with my second key, issues is the same.

I usually wait for all lights to go off before I crank, and also tried just to wait for the glow plugs to go out to crank, always same looooong cranking time....

Can please someone give me advice?

I had/have the same thing on my 1.6 DSG.

Don't have it so much any more though.  I was convinced it was something to do with either temperature on the angle I parked the car at.  I'd leave my car in work car park all day, and have the problem when returning home.  First thing in the morning, outside house, rarely had the problem.

I'd stop the first crank, and then always on the 2nd crank it would fire up straight away.

I don't know why, but I rarely have the problem now.  I don't know if it's because my work and home have changed, and both have perfectly flat parking positions....I can't think what else has changed....oh actually, I've changed both the gearbox and clutches, but don't see why that would make a difference.

It's very strange.

I’d hazard a guess and say it could be due to the out side air temperature

it isnt affecedt by temperature because it fires most times in the morning at -5C great....just sometimes it takes 5sec of cranking to start. It is really annoying. same happend at +15C.

Have you checked the glow plugs? As far as i remember if they aren't working you dont get a dash warning.

The easiest way is to scan with VCDS, that will also reveal any other codes that may be stored,

i will check with a local service shop the diagnostics...

googled this problem and came across an issue with 2.0tdi cr that the vvt gets stuck and wont hold the oil pressure, so the first cranking build up pressure and right after that it would start normal (under 1 sec of cranking)....afer a couple of hours the engine would loose the oil pressure and than the problem would ocure...also this vvt issue does not give any error code on vcds...

I only hope that my problem will be a cheap fix....

Dear friends, the problem si finallly solwed, my car had a hacked software which turned off my egr so there where no errors, after software update in skode shop, car cuts out in 5 sec and the error code for exhaust gases cooler showed up(blinking glow plug on dash) . I had to change the part for a OEM one,and now the car starts great and runs great. They said that my dpf is 62% blocked and i should consider buying new one......everything else is in great condition.

The skoda shop told me that this part is a weak part in 1.6tdi and people change that all the time, long distance drivers are less affected by this problem.

Guy you must buy the OEM part direct from skoda by part number, else it wont work,i bought the part used from a golf 6 and it wouldent work even same numbers by catalog. I had to pay twice for changing it.
