Is Bernie Ecclestone signalling the end

Featured Replies

For me, the end of the Internal combustion engine (ICE) would also be the end of my fascination with F1.

When you consider who is currently financing engine development and the humongous costs involved, maybe it’s simply the end in sight -

(Maybe he was smart in selling out at the top)

If F1 is supposed to be cutting edge then electric and alternative fuels probably are the right direction of travel.

But it will have to offer what it's sponsors want to sell. If the muricans want v8s thye might go back to v8s.

I'd like to see a balls to the wall series, all bets off most rules out the window. Minimum 2000hp per Ton any fuel or propulsion, any wings or aids you can think of, driven by bloody robots if they like. I'd like to see what they'd come up with.

We’ve heard it all before, but it seems the financial ‘pips’ are squeaking.

Shareholders of the major automotive corporations aren’t interested in funding someone’s passion unless there is a good return long term.

That’s the problem - a questionable future for the ICE.

I doubt American audiences will save it either.

American viewers arent going to buy into it any more than they already have  no matter what gets done with F1. Its not an "American" motor sport, ie Indy or Nascar, regardless of those motorsports' roots, so they just aint gonna get involved. Listening to them talk about indy car sometimes it gets talked up as if its better, faster, more technical and developed than F1... and then you have nascar - the working man's moonshine runner's motorsport..

Yes, but Chase Carey now needs to do the impossible if he’s to get his money back let alone make money out of the gamble .

It’s all about chasing eyeballs and thus advertising dollars -

Bernie Ecclestone is a malicious old bugger, who throws out a disruptive quote every week just to undermine Liberty.

Like last week - supporting the "breakaway series" of Marchionne that he spent so much time previously fighting off.

It's just so much noise from a billionaire who still can't believe somebody took his toy away.

At least CVC (the previous owners) still let him play with it.

Did they take it away or does he want us to think that.

Where is the ICE money coming from for the next decade plus for Chase to make a US dollar.

I fear the americanisation of F1.

Well they did sack him as soon as the takeover deal was done.
