Cornering Lights

Featured Replies

I have enabled cornering lights using the front fog lights and they work like like this:

Inside turn fog light comes on when:

steering wheel is turned beyond a certain amount,

when the indicator is on at that side,

both front fogs come on when in reverse gear.

Are all of these the normal function of factory fitted cornering lights?

This works at night and daytime, i.e. always.

I do not have auto lights. Would fitting an auto headlight switch turn off cornering lights during daylight?

I find cornering lights very useful on the unlit slow twisty tracks around here and previously I had sometimes switched on the fog lights to aid visibility, so would like to keep the cornering lights but it seems pointless, and perhaps annoying to others, to have them active during daylight.

Any comments welcome.

Yes they are all normal the conditions.

It is helpful during nights when parking in some mysterious places but can be a bit annoying during daytime when operating.

As far as I know, an autoswitch well not turn off cornering fogs unless the low beam is turned off.

Thank you both for your replies.

At the moment the cornering lights are active when the light switch is in the off position so it sounds like if I fit the auto switch, it will turn the cornering lights off if it has not switched on low beam. Am I right?

If you have a RLS you should be able to fit an auto switch, you need to remove the existing switch and check how many wires ther are in the connector, if there are only 9 you need to add a wire from the switch to the BCM, i can confirm my cornering lights only operate with the dipped lights on.

Thanks for the advice. It will check the switch later when it gets above 0°C. It may have the wire already as others with the Elegance model have found.

You might get lucky, my 10 plate elegance only had 9 wires, connectors are available on Ebay if you need them.

Thanks. Problem I am having now is finding one that has green lighting. On ebay and Amazon the vendors say they are for my car but have red lighting. Can anyone recommend a vendor?

The cornering fogs should only work when the low beams are on. If yours are coming on when the low beam is off, then something isn't right.

Can you share a full VCDS autoscan?

For the auto headlight switch, make sure it's an Octavia one! Most cars seem to have a circular switch whereas the Octavia is actually oval. I believe the correct part number is: 1Z0 941 431 J for the MK2 FL.

Try ebay item 332502475699, just check the part number on your switch,

Both front fog lights come on when in reverse???

Yeah that makes perfect sense!

Yes actually it does now I have tried it as it shows up those fence posts on the bends when reversing up tracks but for 90% of the time you are looking behind you. For most people it would add nothing and you could do the same thing by switching on the fog lamps manually if you wanted. Overall, I would say of limited value but occasionally useful.

I believe the cornering lights are active in daylight because I don't have an auto lights switch. The switch version offered on ebay is the same number but the letter is K, so perhaps a later version. I have asked the sellers what colour illumination is in the switch. in case the J or K denotes led colour.

I need to check whether the coding below was before or after I added cornering lights. I will copy it again when the snow stops.

The single wire for the comfort data has not been a problem in practice and sometimes shows up instead on the infotainment data bus with again, no apparent problem. Poor connection?
