Braving the snow this morning my wife & I took delivery this morning of her new Denim Blue Fabia III Hatch 1.0 TSI 110ps SE DSG. The Rapid SpaceBack she had was at the end of the PCP and she had got fond of my Octavia's ACC, Front Assist, Privacy Glass, fog lights etc. She wanted a smaller car and the dealer of course found the exact car she wanted with all the right options except the Sat Nav. Never fear, we can fit a Kenwood Garmin unit, bigger and better than the unit in your Rapid.

Reading through the manual this evening I was looking for 'how to install your own Points Of Interest,' she does a lot of bowling and I have loads of club addresses on an SD card that I imported into the Amundsen in her Rapid with little problem. I cannot seem to find how to do it with the Garmin unit.

I guess the main unit that they installed is somewhere in the dash so will have to ask where as this has the SD card access, however I'm wondering if importing POI's is even possible as there is no mention of this option in the manual.

 

My 10 year old Tom Tom can import POI's within a minute or two so a modern and expensive unit like the Garmin should have no problem. Anyone been able to add their own POI's and if so how?

Update.

I have downloaded the Garmin POILoader but not installed it yet as I want to find out a few things first.
I have an Octavia that accepts .vcf POI's and can add these to the Amundsen SatNav easily. According to Garmin - less than very helpful - Technical help it will only accept .gpx POI's, however I have read that it will also accept the .vcf POI's without problems. True?

One problem we have come across is that the 'base unit' is hidden in the cars center console, this of course means the SD card slot is no longer accessible!
I am awaiting a return call from the dealers who spent 2 hours installing it whether they will spend another 2 hours accessing it in order to plug in a SB to SB extension lead so I can add my POI's using the lead, as without it I will not be able to do anything with the unit, POI's or map updates etc.
Anyone with knowledge of the unit and using an extension lead, any problems?
