Hey all.

Looking for some help with my Skoda Superb Combi. Its a 2014. Elegance. 

Driving it 2 days ago and I smelled smoke/ burning. Saw the smoke coming from the roof behind the roof light console. Pic attached below.

Turned off car - the burning and smoke seem to  stop. Heated windscreen had been on for 4 or 5 minutes due to frost and snow.

I took the light unit apart to get into the roof and investigate and I found a set of wires badly smouldered ( the worst wire damage is out of shot and directly above the hole in the ceiling). Picture attached below.


Are these the heated windscreen wires in the picture ? Can anyone help?

I'm afraid to even start the car. But ideally I need to drive it to a Garage. I was going to whip out the heated windscreen fuse and start the car and see.


Any help advice appreciated.

Not that this thread gathered much interest . . . .but as a cautionary tale, in case it helps anyone else, here goes.

So the windscreen in my MKII Superb had been replaced prior to my purchasing the car. The windscreen installer was clearly a cowboy and took shortcuts with the install.

He/she/they used basic light 2 core electrical cable at the top of the windscreen when installing it. There is a few inches of wiring required here my indy mechanic tells me. 

The wire was completely inadequate, it overloaded and it burned out. This caused the smouldering & burning in the roof headlining. 

I have no idea who did this windscreen install, lucky for them, because it I did they would find themselves before the Courts right now. My 2 kids could have been in the car when that wire burned and  . . . etc etc.

So as a cautionary tale to anyone getting an electrically heated windscreen replaced!!! Be sure your windscreen installer has the correct parts for the job!

Thanks for the feedback! I missed the original post, but will keep your advise in mind if I ever have to change my windscreen.
