Help. What is this pipe?

So i was cleaning my engine bay, noticed a pipe thats split at both ends and air is hissing out of it when the car is running

 

what is it?

Looks like  the main vacuum pipe that powers the brakes via the servo, have you noticed a rock hard brake pedal??

After some googling i believe your correct. It has become brittle and split. Should i just buy the original part again or can i cut the pipe off and fit a piece of similar hose i may have laying around?

Best to get the correct part, if the tube is not the correct type it could collapse.

Unless it's an odd shaped section, I'd get a suitable alternative at your local pneumatic/hydraulics outlet, it'll be cheaper.

It's a hard plastic walled vacuum hose. Hydraulic or pneumatic hose will not do. No alternative but get the OE part if you want your brakes to have servo assistance.

Hard plastic tubing is available to buy that is suitable for negative as well as positive pressure.
