"Check Trailer Bracket!" Warning

Featured Replies

I intermittently get a warning pop up saying "Check Trailer Bracket!".

I've searched Google, this forum and the manual and can't see any reference to this warning.

Could anyone shed light on what this could be please?

Thanks

Do you have a tow bar/ tow bar electrics fitted?

No - although I plan to in the near future

Is there a list somewhere that contains all the possible error messages and possible causes?

I can't find any reference to this error anywhere.

You would think it would be something tow bar or towing related but seen as you don't have one fitted it seems a bit of a mystery.

I can't find any information on it at all

Perhaps someone connected a vcds and told the car there was a towbar, now it cant get any signals and is complaining .

That's not a bad place to start. Cheers!

It turns out that it did have towing electrics fitted. The previous owner just removed the tow ball!

I booked the guys in to come and fit the tow bar, it already had one! I felt such a numpty!

I had to refit the trailer 13-pin socket today and decided to check all the wiring to see if I could find anything obvious that could be causing this. Whoever fitted the electrics opted not to use those horrible critchley snap connecters but used the red terminal crimp connectors - which I actually prefer to soldering (less vibration stress on a crimp compared to a solder joint) - however they missed the wire when they crimped the earth.

I didn't have any crimps so I've soldered it. Fingers crossed that'll do it! Here's hoping!

One thing I did notice though is the wire in the loom (not the aftermarket caravan electrics, the car's origional loom) is coroded. When I stripped the wire, instead of finding nice bright copper, each strand was black. It was a right pig to tin! I had to scrape each strand back to copper, then dipped it in some plumbers flux before the solder would take!

Thought I'd let you know.

If the error comes shows again, I'll be back!
