Do I have Adaptive Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Hi

My 64-plate Octavia Elegance was delivered (in the snow) yesterday and so far I'm really impressed with it :)

I'm trying to work my way through all the different systems and driver aids (found out it can park itself which is one of the weirdest things I've experienced!!) but what I can't work out is if it has Adaptive Cruise Control or not.

The stalk doesn't have the distance set toggle on it but the manual references "ACC" under the picture of the stalk I have with the "ON Cancel Off" toggle.

I can't see how I'd set distance with this stalk so I guess I don't have ACC but I do have the radar in the front grill?

If you have ACC you will have a separate control stalk for it; standard cruise is on the indicator stalk. The sensor on the front is also for emergency braking

Cheers for clearing that up for me :)

At least I won't go barrelling into the back of someone trying to test it now! :D

Annoyingly front assist and ACC don't always go together, all cars with ACC will have front assist, but some will have front assist without ACC. If you don't have 2 stalks on the left side of the steering wheel, you won't have ACC.

On off cancel is standard cruise.

I was hoping ACC would be a reasonably straightforward retrofit with having the front assist radar but I haven't seen it done.

On one of the searches I did I saw at least one post about retrofitting it which suggested the same.

TBH, I go on a motorway a few times a year and it would only be a gimmick for me to use on my daily commute.  The park pilot will actually be a lot more useful for me, well more my wife if I can convince her to use it (she has an actual fear of robots and says it's too close to the car being a robot :D

I'm sure trust2K is on it!

it sounds really involved, I've fitted a few broken VW stalks but would not fancy adding another. sounds very expensive. I do a lot of motorway miles and can see the usefulness, I'm definitely getting the optional extra on the next vRS.

It´s in danish, but I assume the photos will speak for themselves. There is a few companies over here doing that retrofit; so plan a holiday in DK; I´ll gladly translate/provide the contact to the relevant persons doing these things ;)

Wow that's awesome, thanks for sharing! I guess anything can be done with enough knowledge, and more importantly the money to swap out the parts! Needing to replace the ABS pump and steering wheel surprised me.

That’s incredible! I wouldn’t have thought so much would need changing! I’m lucky in that North Wales is pretty quiet, with only 1 major trunk road, which is often largely empty so I have never had an issue with passive cruise control. I still want active cruise control though, just because...

The ABS pump is not necessary in all cases, as I understand it. The pump he mounted was sourced on Ebay from UK. The radar was replaced since the car only came with Front Assist from the factory, and it´s not possible (yet) to unlock all radars.

The price for the retro I´ve heard is around £1200 depending on the level of equipment in the individual car.

Unlike bluetooth, keyless, sat nav etc adaptive cruise control hasn't filtered down as standard equipment. It remains an option on most cars even though the S Class probably had it what, 15+ years ago?
