Early mk3 VRS estate daily

Featured Replies

I thought it was about time I started a bit of a thread on my daily toy, After having numerous estates over the years (started with a mk4 Golf SE, then B7 A4 S line, MK4 Golf Sport, B6 A4 S line, Seat Exeo Sport,) I have finally stopped listening to the wife and got my VRS I have wanted for a few years. I picked up an early one as in my budget it was either a 2014/15 model but with higher miles and maybe a few more toys, or there was the 63 plate with only 44K on the clock, FSH history, but the only extra being OE tinted windows, so I went for that one instead.

even before I had picked it up I had ordered my pressed plates and holders,

Since then it has now had the following also fitted:

Black pack grill

Black pack mirrors

Mud flaps,

Kenwood Nav,

Rieger front lip,

Rieger rear valance,

Milltek twin exit system with OE rear petrol exits,

17MY phone holder,

Cruise control retrofitted,

OE LED number plate lamps,

Phillips X-Treme Vision DS2 bulbs

Plus numerous VCDS extras like High Beam Assist,  cornering lamps etc,

Debadged rear (bar VRS badges)

I need to take some better photos really when the weather gets better, but so far I am still loving driving this car, it could poss do with a little more umph, but overall really happy with it, and the fact it is happily doing over 50mpg easily,

I don't suppose you have the OE part number for the led numberplate bulbs you used please?

I will check. I have used 2 sets. One was the common retro fit ones for the Rapid etc, they can be found on the led number plate thread, however as per my post on there do NOT cut the tabs off and fit them the other way round, they work beat the correct way that the tabs make you fit them.

the set I run now are the OE rapid ones, as fitted to later cars. These have only 1 led and different lensing but fit and work the same.

5NA 943 021 is the ones I run now with only 1 LED.

Thank you.

Much appreciated

Only done a couple of little bits over the summer as been driving the T4 mainly, but I have fitted some car shades to the rear windows, not cheap but they fit well, make the OE tinted windows look darker and keep the little ones out the sun.

also fitted some 19s too, 8.5s on the front and 9.5s on the back, et42 all round. I wasn’t sure if they would look any good or be too wide at the rear but I think they look pretty spot on, well pleased with them.

might have to lower it a touch now though, so need to start looking into what gives me another 15-20mm drop over stock as don’t want to go too low as it needs to be a daily that can cope with country roads,

Looking good! I'd definitely drop it slightly.

Do these need coding?

yeah all the OEM led options will need coding, easy enough to do if you have VCDS or some one local-ish with it. The after market lamps which have the resistors built in always look pants with really bad beam pattern, this are a really nice even light.

Not updated this for a year, been busy on other things. Not much has changed though. Aero roof bars and top box for holidays, and a private plate as a gift but that’s about it for now, just been busy chopping the miles and being a brilliant family wagon with kids, GF and dog in the boot.

Just read this for the first time and it looks great. I can't understand why these don't come with cruise control as standard.

One question, how do you get away with putting the GF and the dog in the boot?
