Esp Noise

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

I have a 2004 Skoda Octavia 1.6. Estate

When the ESP is on,  if I corner alittle fast a I hear a strange noise coming from about front tires, and I see ESP light on. This is not when ESP is off.

Do you have any idea?

The noise is something like the tire touches the mudguard.

@frostbite19 - What is the noise like? In particular, is it like a very quiet version of a film car chase tyre squeal?

It is like a grinding noise, like the front tire grinds the fenders or guards, but I'm sure they dont, because if I l turn the ESP off, there is no problem.

If anticipate that it might be from gearbox or something like that.

Firstly check your tyre pressures.

I think the ESP gets the wheel speed from the ABS sensors to detect loss of traction, so I would check the sensors and ABS rings.

Following that, possibly investigate the readings from the steering angle sensor.

It's possibly the EDC (if it is fitted on your car) which works with the ABS/TC system to provide a virtual diff lock by applying the brakes to the inside wheel.

Yes I sometimes guess it is an premature ESP activation,

Let me give some more details;

Tires:195/65/15

Aftermarket 15" Alloys

The steering wheel is not horizontal when driving straight, it leans left

This noise is obvious at +70kmh

Mechanics have no idea, thats why I'm here, mostly I feel like I know more than those guys although Im an English teacher :)

Greetings from Turkey, Thanks for your help

Get the tracking adjusted and it should go away.

Edit: I suggest you find new mechanics too!
