Wife locked keys in boot!

We’ve had our new Karoq 3 days and this morning my wife opened the boot via keyless entry, dumped her stuff in there along with the car keys, and closed the boot, immediately locking herself out of the car with the keys inside. She had to bang on the door to wake me up to use my key to open the car. 

 

Is is there a way to stop this happening in future as I’ll bet my life she will do it again when she leaves work haha! Or after telling her not to put her keys in the boot I’ll end up doing the same thing myself. Seems like an easy thing to be able to do, surely the manufacturer has thought of this?!

I was under the impression all she would have had to do is go to a door handle and pull...as you have KESSY the car should have unlocked for her as the keys were within 2m of the vehicle.

 

Does it not work this way?

Hmm... I’d like to think she tried that, but I can’t be sure. I will try it later and let you know! Cheers.

Does this mean if you inadvertently leave your keys in the car (you normally carry the keys in your trouser pocket, but one day you put them in your jacket pocket which you subsequently leave in the vehicle) the vehicle remains unlocked?

Staple the key to her forehead.

This method fell out of favour in the 1720s, but it worked... No 18th Century man ever locked his keys in his car!! :p

 

OK, maybe just 'threaten' her with the stapler... or put them on a lanyard round her neck...

You speak a lot of sense, I like it. Now... where’s my stapler...

Frustrating. But a design fault that this can happen at all.

I haven't got central , but SWIMBO has a habit of leaving her key in car , borrowing mine and then using one of the other doors which will lock before closing. I've found what might be the answer. NAG. "Keys in hand before shutting door ".

Seriously it seems like a flaw in new systems. What is needed is a modification- ( or perhaps better product testing ,as done in computer program testing ) to prevent the vehicle locking  whilst the keys are still within a short range.
