Canton centre speaker

Featured Replies

Hello, has anyone with Canton had issues with their Centre speaker? In the past few weeks I've noticed an irritating distortion on certain frequencies and it sounds like its coming from the centre speaker. Thing is, it only happens on certain songs and it's fine 95% of the time.

Curious to know if anyone has had anything similar? I'm out of warranty so would likely have to replace the speaker. Anyone replaced theirs and can you get it out from the top of the dash? Thanks

Edit* just to add this is with 320kbps MP3 + FLAC on SD card so don't think it's a source issue.

could be dirt or a hair on the membrane...

I say this because I've had problems in the past with my Custom one Pros - they've gotten a hair through the sponge and because there's some vaguely adhesive properties somewhere, they don't come out again easily. I'd try some air somehow (though you need to be careful, especially with the canned stuff as you don't want the lube on the cone of the driver!) or just take the grille off and see what's what.

Thanks! I attempted to take the grille off earlier and the gap between the grille and the dash is almost non existent. Couldn't get a credit card between so need something thinner.

I'm also wondering whether it's the speakers sound resonating against the grille at a certain frequently as an alternative cause.

if it's only just started, that's unlikely. You could try a sound generator, but I suspect that there's something with a very specific length and therefore frequency at which it vibrates with the driver.  Replacement grills appear to be 5e0857717 1QB and at €14, I wouldn't worry too much about breaking it.... but that part number ought to be confirmed.

I got a quote for speaker replacement and grill replacement; both only came to about £37 quid delivered - the grille being about £12. Your part number is correct

I've had both front door speakers replaced in the vRS due to distortion on the bass - but mainly on piano type music (under warranty luckily) but i do think the canton entre speaker is playing up a bit also now, but now i just got it in my head that everything rattles i think!
