Wobble when idle??

Featured Replies

Good afternoon everyone,

I have an 07 plate Octavia vRS and have noticed when i am sitting at a lights/junction it can start to wobble. It takes a good 10 seconds or so to start and then it creeps in. This goes away when i increase the revs but can be really annoying when i am stuck in traffic!

Has anyone got any thoughts on what this might be?

Thanks

Dan

What mileage has your car covered? Mine has done this since I bought it late 2016. It's since had a full service including new plugs and filters plus charcoal canister and purge valve ( due to codes not juddering ) and the car still does it. When I first noticed it I thought the DMF was on its way but a bit of searching on here I found it a fairly common issue. No misfires or anything when driving it pulls lovely. So I believe it's probably due to a bit of coking on the inlet valves which is a problem this engine suffers from. Mine is the earlier tfsi with belt. Strangely though, I had a Seat Leon fr before the Octavia with the exact same engine which had only done 55k miles and that car didn't do it. Mine has done 97k. As it's running fine it's just something I've learned to live with. A clean of the valves is a fairly lengthy process involving removing the inlet manifold.

Hi,

My car has done 81K and i have just travelled to Paris and back without a hitch. I have been told that it may be a split in a vacuum tube so i am going to investigate a little and get back to you.

Ok that would be good if you found the cause. Please do let me know if you cure it as mine has never stopped doing it despite all of the parts it's had.

Hi I think ive cracked it. I had an engine management light and someone suggested that it may be a perforated seal on the fuel cap. I changed the cap for a genuine Skoda one and both light and wobble have disappeared. Give it a go and let me know how you get on.

Well I wouldn't have thought of that one. The rubber string part that stops it dropping to the floor when its unscrewed perished and snapped so the actual seal itself could have done the same. Did you check the seal or just replace?

I had the same. I couldn't see much wrong with it but the mechanic I used was adamant. He was also adamant that it was to be a genuine fuel cap, not an aftermarket one.

I filled up yesterday and checked the rubber seal on the cap. There is visible cracks in the seal. Do you have a part number for the genuine item?

Ive got a 2009 TSI but assuming the fuel cap is the same, I’ve just bought a replacement cap from TPS, part number is 1K0201550AF.

The fuel cap it replaced had the part number 1J0201553AD.

Hi,

The part number on mine is almost the same but with an AH on the end. So it's 1J0201553AH, this could be a letter representing the year/month made?

I found a new cap for my old 07 vRS on Skodaparts when I put in the car details. The rubber anti-loss strap had broken.

My 07 had a similar "wobble" to the one you are describing. Turned out the previous owner had work done and they removed the engine mounting bolts. The Octy II engine bolts are stretch bolts and can only be used once. You have to use brand new ones every time you undo them as they stretch when they're tightened. The people the previous owner had used had reused the old bolts so they didn't stretch when they did them up which resulted in them being loose and the engine was moving on the mounts, causing the wobble. It cost me around a hundred quid to have a set of bolts changed that would have cost £12 had the last people done it properly when they had them out.

My main dealer threw their arms up in horror when they found how loose the bolts were. They said the engine had been in danger of possibly falling out.
