camber, negative

Featured Replies

So, yesterday I bought new tires!

And I was happy until I fitted them, they have been balanced and all, but when I was at allingment shop, they told me my front right tire have negative camber, and rear has negative toe.

I was looking for solutions and I have find out that front camber isnt adjustable, and I need to live with that and on one thread I have find out someone call it vw camber adjuster.

But I think its for rear camber.

Does anyone know what can be done about this problem I dont want to destroy new tires...:(

The problem here is the MK I rear suspension is a very simple torsion beam set-up so no adjustment is possible. The only way this can be out is the result of an accident of some sort  (very heavy kerbing etc).

Can I ask:-

  • Did you have uneven wear on the tyres that were replaced ?
  • Was the allignment check done by a well know fast fit tyre outfit touting for business - if so don't let them any where near your car other than fiting tyres. [Edit - just seen Serbia - however check allignment shop is to be trusted]

Yea, I have been to very good mechanic, and he thinks that negativ camber of 0.6 isnt very big deal end I shoudnt touch it.

There is way for this to be fixed it up, but he woudnt advise, because it would weaken steel.

Also, he sad for tire in back that I may put to much preassure( I did drive with 200kg in boot, or I may hit the hole, however blame is on me.

Also to answer your q my tire did have slighty wear, nothing too much.

Sounds like great advice re the rear suspension

P.S. Sometimes front negative camber can be due to worn joints/bushes - the B5 suspension (also used on Passats and Audis of that era) is a complex beast consisting of numerous arms, bushes and ball joints. Worth getting them checked out to see if anything is worn out.
