Dsg gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi there guys.

I am looking for a bit of advice. I am looking into buying a 2010 Skoda Octavia Vrs with the dsg gearbox. My question is how reliable are said gearbox. I have heard good and bad things about the dsg gearbox and they are expensive to replace. So any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance guys.

Welcome.

If you have heard about issues with DSG's. that is likely not as in an Octavia vRS which is a 6 speed Wet Clutch which requires Oil changes every 40,000 miles.

So be sure any you are looking at buying have had that carried out.

If you have thoughts of Replacement costs that is about £4,000.   But then that should not be an issue with a well maintained car with the DSG Servicing.

Buy a Warranty if you think you need one.

The issue is DQ200 DSG, 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch,

Issues with some. 2009-2013, then those 2013-2015. and again now with some already 2015 on.

The DSG is a great box, I'm on my second car with DSG, both 1.9 tdi, first car went to 186k miles with nothing done to the box except 40K oil and filter changes,

Current car was slightly overdue it's DSG service and slightly rough between 1st and 2nd but an oil change sorted that,

Don't forget it's not  conventional auto with a torque convertor but more like a manual with twin wet clutches which is why changing the oil is so important.

The DSG is the thing I like best of mine. Very smooth & makes driving effortless. No issues with the car being 6.5 years old. Has had an oil change when it was due so all good so far.
