Emission software update not needed with Green Tec Diesel engines?

Featured Replies

Hi all,
I own a Oktavia (2014) with the 1.6 Green Tec diesel engine. I always thought, I had to take it to Volkswagen to have it serviced with that emissions update one day. The website where you can check, if that's really necessary http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/dieselinfo/check-your-vehicle fortunately says I won´t need an update. Is this because it's the Greentec version? I've read in the forums that doing the update is not really recommended anyways. What are your thoughts on this?

If you car is not one with a Defeat Device then great, no need to remove it, apply new engine management and fit a Flow Rectifier.

So be double sure,  ask http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

Not compulsory, believe nobody, trust nobody that wants to do it because VW pays them, or their garage to,

& be sure if ever at a VW Group Main Dealership or anyone for servicing that they know to leave your car well alone other

than normal servicing and maintenance.

No Software Updates.

No 'Fix' attempts.

Thanks for the advice!

As above it is better not to need to have the update.

Whilst the actual change is simple, activating EGR all the time has a negative effect on fuel economy & the are many reports of failed EGR valves after the updated.

I always thought the 1.6 TDI required the fix but I guess the Greentec uses a different software/calibration so it is not necessary.

Either way, if they dont offer it to you I wouldn't request it..
