Software to check pump timing after cambelt

Featured Replies

Hi all, my 1.9tdi asv is due its cambelt change.

I'm weighing up if it's worth me doing it myself.

Had 4 quotes so far around £450-£500 mark. A bit more than I was expecting and almost as much as the car is worth. I can get the parts for about £120 and its less than 4 hours labour, so not understanding the high prices.

The mechanical part Im quite happy to do, but the retiming the pump after checking the values on diag software Im not so sure about.

What do people use?

Also was thinking, why would the pump even need retiming? if i lock everything to TDC and the pump is locked in place then, it shouldn't change? Do the 3 bolts on the pump even need to be slackened kff during the change? Or are we talking fractions of a mm = a big difference?

Also any members around wrexham or chester recommend a reasonable garage to get a quote off?

Cheers

My old man has done a few belts on these engines and never had to check the timing so my guess is that its possible to get it done in the usual manor.

You an always find somebody afterwards to check it.

Also, no garage is going to check it anyway..........

@RobDav99 - VCDS springs to mind, but you'll need a laptop, a cable, and the shareware licence.
