Emergency Braking?

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a 6 month old Scout DSG and whenever I reverse out of my drive the park pilot beeps (as it did on my previous Skoda) as I near the bush/hedge at the end of the drive, then all of a sudden, the car shudders to a halt as the ABS kicks in. I assume this is "emergency braking", which I didn't know I had! Can someone explain how it works? Does it measure distance before applying brakes, or is it based on number/frequency of beeps from the park pilot? Can it be switched off or configured in any way? Does it only work when reversing?

Cheers all.

What you are experiencing is Maneuver Braking. It works when in reverse (assuming you don't have any other parking sensors fitted).

Automatic braking for damage limitation
The system detects an imminent collision based on the driving speed and the distance from the obstacle, automatic brake support is initiated.

To disable, go to the Car settings menu --> Parking and Maneuvering --> Park Pilot --> Maneuver Braking (untick this option).
