Amundsen SatNav Audible Speed Warnings?

Featured Replies

I will be using the on-board SatNav on the Scout to go to a metal detecting rally in the back of beyond of deepest, darkest Dorset on Sunday and thought I'd make sure that audible speed warnings were turned on, but there doesn't seem to be this function available! Every Tom-Tom and Garmin SatNav I've had going back about 10 years had this function. Am I missing something (apart from a few brain cells, that is!)?

(My software version is dated 2015 so I need to download the latest version anyway but would that help?)

See this thread if you have a a MIB2 system, think these are audible warnings :) If you have MIB1, I don’t think it can be done.

Thanks Sasha

I presume that's for fixed cameras.

In my 48 years of driving I've only had 3 speeding tickets and each time they've been from mobile units where I've just crept over the 30 mph limit.

What I was after was an audible warning when the SatNav calculates that my average speed has just gone over the speed limit applicable to the whole journey.

(In Hampshire and Dorset there are numerous small villages and the speed limit constantly changes up and down and an audible warning is very useful).

I recently bought a cheap Tom-Tom to use in my wife's Pug 306 and that has it!

I think I know what you mean now, like my old TomTom turned the speed red when it was above the limit. My MIB2 Amundsen has this feature (I think), it’s in the nav settings tab. I don’t know about MIB1. Do you know which system you have? Does your car have a CD drive in the glovebox?

Hi Sasha

Yes I have got a CD player in the glove box.

Mind you I'd have to have arms as long as "Twizzle" (before your time! Lol) to reach it from the driver's side!

I think I did find a section in the set up where it alerts you "visually" if you're going too fast but I can't find anywhere to set up audible warnings!

With all their clever technology you'd have thought this would be an in-built feature.

I might have to use the Amundsen to get me there but have the Tom-Tom running in the background to give me those reassuring "bongs" Lol

Sadly, you may be right there, I’ve no idea what Twizzle is. If you have the CD drive, you have a MIB1 system. I hear the TomTom would be a better system anyway. I don’t find my MIB2 factory nav all that great either, but instructions on the Maxidot are a nice feature you can’t have on SmartLink. At least with that I can have factory nav on the Maxidot and Apple maps on the radio screen. Having the digital speedo on the Maxidot also helps with those overspeed moments, but nothing beats having a limiter like my Mercedes does. Great way to ensure you don’t creep over and I miss it in the Skoda :(

Sadly I probably watched this in 1957!

One of the first programs Gerry Anderson was associated with before becoming famous for Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Terrahawks etc.

I remember Thunderbirds and the other Supermarionation programmes. What they have done to Thunderbirds now is sacrilegious.

Just a quick resurrection. I was flicking through the car menus today whilst in traffic and noticed that if you have Traffic Sign Recognition there is a setting to have a visual or visual and audible alert should you go over the speed limit that’s been detected.
