Suitable Double DIN units

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2000 registration Skoda Octavia; a mk1?

Is it possible to fit a double din unit in the space currently occupied by a single din stereo and the single din 'shelf'?

If so, are there suitable Android-based units that can be installed?

(I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the car is too old to support modern units, but, if you don't ask...)

Many thanks for any help in this respect.

Cheers,

g.

Your main issue is going to be how much of the existing radio plastic support frame at the rear you will have to cut away to allow your choice of unit sufficient depth fo fit into the radio space.

I am also not certain that any heater trunking may not intrude into the way either - perhaps a pre facelift owner can help you on that one.

Ah; not trivial then... Certainly more involved than the likely value derived.

Thanks for responding Phil, it was much appreciated.

I fitted a double din no problem in mine.

It came with a rather crappy aftermarket radio that wouldn't remember the stations, so I had a Panasonic double din sitting spare.  It popped strait in with no mods or special connectors other than needing an adaptor for the ariel.

This model supports ipod/phone usb audio in aux android cd.  There are models that will take bluetooth aswell.

The only downside is that it is ugly as hell and glows bright red. Lol kinda clashes with the subtle greens of the dash lights.

I keep thinking I should replace mine with a nice double-DIN, preferably one with USB that can play DVDs and do SatNav and everything...

But since I hardly even have the radio on, I end up forgetting about it.

The problems for me would be colour clash and the design not fitting well with the rest of the car. Most modern units look like someone nicked parts off a Transformer!

I installed a double din in my vRS the other week. No modding at all, just needed to bend the cage ever so slightly on the side so it would go in. Can change the colour of the dials too so it's all green and matches :)

I'd recommend taking the glove box out so you can access all the wires and pull them through, makes life so much more easier!

Hi DeanVRS20VT...

Could you tell me the model of that Pioneer unit please? That way I'll have the dimensions, which ought to stop me from buying a unit that would be too big.

I'm also assuming, since it's Android compatible, that it's possible to install Android apps on the device?

Thanks very much,

gee.

Evening, It's the Pioneer AVH-Z3000DAB
https://www.pioneer-car.eu/uk/products/avh-z3000dab

I haven't a clue as I got it for AppleCarPlay, it looks like the system is pioneers software with CarPlay for iPhone, I'm not sure how it works with Android? Sorry.

As above, you'll need to bend the cage slightly on the side as it catches on the edge of the plastic, once dine it fits nicelyo

just a warning - The aerial is a powered aerial so you may need a bit of extra wiring to make the radio work well.
