Throttle jamming open

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 fabia mk2 1.2cc, when I go over 3000rpm my throttle sticks open. Then the car doesn't idle properly. Can anybody tell me what the problem could be?

Always check the simple/cheap/silly stuff first...

I once had a bit of an issue with a notchy clutch and then some throttle problems.
Turns out the floor mat was curling over and fouling the pedals!

Seriously, give it a look...

Ttaskmaster, no floor mats in the car. Had it on diagnostic machine, nothing showing. Replaced throttle housing. If I could upload the video on here you could see, file to big.

@Spivmyster - So put your video on YouTube, and then post a deep link.

Also, accepted you don't have floor mats, but check the carpet, and indeed if you have a broken throttle return spring.

Throttle return spring fine...

I have checked the pedals are clear of anything.

When I accelerate to three thousand revs then release the throttle, then dip the clutch revs stay at three thousand revs or go higher. I lift the clutch while still in gear to stop it. Dip the clutch again, rev needle drops slowly. Then the rev counter idled between 500-1000 revs for about 1-2 minutes. Any ideas?

@KenONeill

I would put the video on YouTube, am talking through it for the garage so they can believe me what going on.

IF you start it and leave it to idle, does it just stay where it should? Or does it creep?

@robt100

It is normal when started. I travel 12 miles into the city then park for 1-2 hours it ok when I start up.

When I have to stop at junctions and roundabouts, because I have to accelerate quick to get into the traffic. Then it starts, because I take it over 3 thousand revs.

@Spivmyster - The other alternatives (left until the easy to see mechanical options were investigated) seem to be the spring on the throttle plate if there is one, or a glitch in the EMS, which almost certainly needs VCDS, not a generic code reader, to investigate.

@KenONeill I have posted a video on you tube (Skoda Fabia Mk2 throttle problems).
