Fabia vRS test drive tomorrow.

Featured Replies

:thumbup: I got a test drive tomorrow in a Fabia vRS at Sylk Skoda in Macclesfield. I currently drive a CTR so need some tips to get the best from the fabia so i don't just come away hating it cos i couldn't drive it properly. I've never driven a diesel before but i fully understand they make most of they're 'grunt' low down.

Cheers. :thumbup:

Just do what I did. Go out in the car and enjoy. Economy, power, simplicity, build quality, standard kit, price, ride, and of course, the look on those faces when you pull away from them uphill in 5th ;)

When I went on my test drive i did drive it like a petrol...well i didn't change my driving style, consciously anyway!

To be honest when I was on the drive I got a bit embarrassed as i started to laugh and chuckle as when i accelerated I got a great feeling of power that i had never had before when driving, i loved it when the car just picked up from soo low down and the turbo kicked in.

Also on the test drive i took my girl friend and she was sat in the back, she kept saying "everyone is starring at us". She told me after that she thought they were staring cos its a SKODA. I said to her "no luv,I think its cos its a VRS!, I don't think they have seen one before".

Enjoy your drive. I did on mine.

:iagree: Change up earlier in rev range (3000 instead of 6000), and don't bother changing down to accelerate uphills on motroway for example in 6th from 70mph it will pull like a train. Oh yes and keep an eye on the speeedo :P

I drive a CTR i don't change gear until 8250rpm. :thumbup::cool: :cool:

Keep your eye on the speedo - you'll be going faster than you think. There is useful grunt from 1500rpm, anything less and it feels flat while the turbo spools up. Full boost is about 1800rpm and there's no real point revving it past 4000rpm. I suspect your first impression coming out of the CTR is that the gearing is all wrong. It's long compared to a petrol but it works because of all the torque, for example 3rd gear is usable from 20mph to the redline at 75mph. The vRS is a damn good cruiser as well - 70mph in 6th is around 2100rpm and you don't need to change down to overtake.

Ah that would be geared quite low then, vRS 70 mph in 6th if memory serves (and top ratio asn't changed) about 2000 rpm... might be corrected on this one haven't driven one in over a year, still only 8 weeks to go :thumbup:

Magic got in before me still wasn't to far out!

Just enjoy it, and let us know what you think!
