ABS EML ESP? Arg! Help me please!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I implore you fellow owners, help me solve an electronics gremlin!

My car is an 07 plate Octavia vRS petrol. Ownership has been sweet, I have done as much preventative maintenance as possible & the P.O. had the abs repaired years ago, at some considerable cost.

So why oh why, a couple of weeks before my MOT does the following occur; eml abs & esp all light up at once, completely at random. Sometimes 30 seconds after starting the car, sometimes miles down the road. Sometimes they go back off. Sometimes they stay on. Occasionally just the abs will come on when started, then seconds later disappear.

Driveability is not affected in any way. Still goes, stops & the speedo reads fine.

I've heard from other mk5 golf platform forums that this could potentially caused by a faulty brake light sensor (under the pedal). This is an easy & cheap fix so immediately I'm suspicious that that isn't it (still crossing fingers).

Would anyone have any idea what this would be likely to be as I'm not up for remortgaging to pay the MOTing garage if it fails on this!

I'd start with a scan from VCDS or similar.

If the warning lights are on, there should be a number of fault codes stored which will point you in the direction of the issue.

@Nbitc - If you can, try and check the brake lights the next time it does this. If none of them work, then you absolutely, positively need a new genuine OEM brake light switch.
