VRS Insurance change of car and advice

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am just about to get a VRS estate diesel as my family wagon.  I currently own a modified Mazda 6 MPS (300bhp+).

I am currently with Chris Knott and they want an additional £104 to insure me on a VRS, which would be £430+. It seems crazy as I am effectively downgrading from a 2.3l 4x4 petrol turbo to a 2.0l diesel.

When  ive used Comparingthemarket.com  the top 5 quotations are below £325

Can you offer some advice on who you are insured with please?

thanks

Darren

Let Chris Knott know you have found a cheaper quote and see if they will match it or beat it....

They won't. Tbh when I explained the situation they weren't very friendly

I also went on Quotemehappy, and they've had my business for the last two years, having taken it from CK.  Always pays to shop around.

Thanks, does that include modifications? I plan to throw a few on and I know some insurers don't want to know cheers

Surprised by that.  I've been with and without CK for donkey's years and I've not had one duff contact.  Maybe they were just having a carp day.

Can't answer that as mine's bog standard, so I've not had to ask (yet).

Hi Dan, thanks but we had a very bad experience with Adrian Flux with my wife's old car so even if the quote was lower I wouldn't take any cover out. Thanks for the reply though

When I had my VRS remapped, I had to change insurance company's, as my old one did not like modded cars. I shopped around and in the end went with Reis motorsport insurance. Reasonable quote for me anyway, but your details are of course different from mine. Still going to shop around again next year mind.

I used Quote Me Happyfor 3 years and it was cheaper to insure my 220 than my wife's Sirion even though I had a 2 car discount....crazy! Two new windscreens seemed to make the premium rise a bit even though I had protected NCB. However they didn't definitely didn't want to touch any mods such as a remap and said they'd cancel the cover. Probably why they can be very competitive.  The quote for last year was about  £40-50 higher with all insurers, so I got it mapped and went with Sky insurance which cost an extra £100. The map on a Black Friday deal was reduced by  £150, so SWMBO was told the truth when I said I'd 'saved' £50

Thanks guys. I used to be with sky Insurance when I have my DC2

 That's not a bad shout.

I'm tempted to stay with Chris Knott to save hassle

I'm sorry you felt you had a less than ideal experience with us. We're not often accused of rudeness. I'll look into the call and see who you spoke with.

When you move from one car to another you can lose the ownership discount some insurers place in their calculations. The thinking is that the longer you've owned a particular car, the more you're used to handling it (and you may have more of an emotional attachment to it). The increase is only until the end of the existing policy term (assuming you changed cars mid-term). At renewal the premium should be more competitive.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help. I'm here for exactly that.

best,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Yes the customer service representative was very dismissive. Unfortunately due to exit fees and hassle of getting setup on a new policy, i will have to remain with Chris Knott until next year. Hopefully your company will be more helpful when I come to declaring any modifications, as the price increase of almost 30% was against a well modified Mazda 6MPS compared to that of a standard VRS diesel estate (apparently a problem car in comparison)

thanks

Darren
