Seat Leon FR 125 power reduction

Featured Replies

Have a passing interest in the Seat Leon as it was in the running when I bought my present car, realised that with the Seat I would have needed the estate whereas with the Octavia the hatch had plenty space.

Notice though that most newer 1.4 Leons, Including the FR have had their power output slashed. Aware that there is a lot more to real world on the road performance than peak power output but all the same 125 is grim. 1.4 FR was always a nice if somewhat lukewarm hatch, not sure it can even qualify as tepid now though.

Wonder what it is all about?

Is it another example of VAG not wanting Seat/Skoda to be too good compared to VW/Audi?

I think SEAT have just widened the engine choice on FR models. The Leon FR/Cupra currently has a multitude of choices from 125 to 306 bhp.

Many drivers want the sporty looks and handling but have no need of the extra oomph or insurance costs.

Also remember when the 1.4 petrol put out 170-180bhp it drank oil and blew up whether it was in a Skoda, SEAT or VW :D

Its the same extra choice with other models, the new Ibiza FR can be had with a paltry 95bhp if you really want.

Are these 1.4TSI with a Gasoline Particulate Filter,

or SEAT / VW getting a last hoorah out of Euro 6 1.4TSI before discontinued?

Gone, forgotten, move on, lets forget them thew 1.5 TSI EVO is the new greatest bestist thing.

The Limited Edition Fabia R5 1.4 TSI DSG has 125 ps as well.

They will remap nicely to 150ps.

Built proof engine hopefully unlike some of those other, 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, 2.0 litre TSI's Euro5 / 6.

PS.

Twinchargers were 150, 160, 180 & 185ps Audi A1. 160 -185ps ones were the problem.

150ps Twincharger 2011/12 in an Ibiza FR 1.4 TSI / DSG was a cracker,

before the new 180ps CTHE 2012/13.

At the time I was looking it was between the Octavia 1.4 TSI 150 and the Leon FR TSI 150 although there were also some Leons with ACT many did not.

Glad though that Skoda did not get selected for a downgrade - think we've suffered enough of them.

It not a downgrade as such ; it's a choice. The Leon is still available new with the 1.4 / 150 as well.

Many Octavia's are however available with a severe downgrade - the same rubbish 1.0 TSi as the Leon SE (and my Toledo).

Suppose so.

Just seems weird that they chose to add this seemingly inferior version of the 1.4 to the range so late in the life of the 1.4. Yet looking at recent 2nd hand cars it would appear that the 125 version was the popular one, guess the difference in price really sold it. Or does the 125 have some saving grace I am overlooking?

The older 1.4 122 was highly regarded on the Rapid forums, but I think all the 1.4TSi are a little tarred by the brush of the twincharger model failures, hence it's going soon in favour of the 1.5.

Similarly all 1.2TSi engines are still suffering from the poor camchain reputation of the pre 2012 ones.

The SKODA Configurators are still showing 1.4 TSI and 1.5 TSI Octavia,  but Broadspeed no longer show the 1.4TSI's.

It can not be long until factory orders stop on the 1.4TSI's.

Loads of different power output TSI / TFSI Turbo only, ACT / COD as well,  the twinchargers never tarred the millions produced and sold really,

VW vever bothered their back end to accept that they Coc-ked up right back with Golf 1.4 Twinchargers. Then still with Euro 5's.

VW are just confusing in how they name engines or leave them all with the same numbers / names.

No wonder parts are so confusing, spark plugs required etc.

PS

Newer 1.2 TSI have some with issues as well.

Give any VW Group engine and there is a possibility of a looming issue.  Few in numbers obviously, overblown online... Not.

The Past and present DQ200 DSG are the same, millions produced, issues, 2009-2013, then again 2013-2015,

then low and behold, 2017/18 they are now made to accept that they VW have issues with some 2015-2017.  TPI issues, Clutch Packs / Software updates.
