Accidentally reset service interval

Featured Replies

Whilst simply trying to reset trip to zero I reset tge service interval ( i was distracted and must have done donething wrong)

my Superb is 6 months okd and done just over 7000 miles

service now sats durs in 12,500 miles or 559 days

cannot believe i did this.

What can I/should I do??

thanks

If your car is on variable servicing that is probably about right for the next service.

If your car is on fixed servicing it makes no sense anyway since its due every 365 days.

Personally i don't think you have done anything.

Thanks. I did see a message saying service interval reset though...

That sounds about right  ?  Service interval around 19,000 miles. Are you sure you have reset it ? Don't know but I wouldn't have thought you can reset it yourself through the settings.  Would need to use the VCDS diagnostic tool to set it

I think it does recalculate itself from time to time, based on the oil quality monitoring?

As others say, you haven't reset it. Its obviously on the variable service interval (up to 18000miles/2 years) and its impossible to reset that from the dash as it would switch to fixed interval and show service due in 9400 miles /372 days.

Thanks everyone, thats reassuring.

I have attached a picture taken today.

Oil service change , has that been reset as it now says 364 days or is that in keeping with 6 month old car having done 7000 odd miles.

Sorry, never knew what service/oil figures were before looked yesterday after my muck up.

Appreciate the advice.

You are now telling us something completely different to your original post. The Oil change information indicates you actually did reset the service indicator. It is now on fixed service intervals (9300 miles/1year). As you did it without actually changing the oil and filter it is now out of kilter with the inspection service indicator.

Could make warranty claims on engine complicated depending how difficult your dealer is as it could have already been on fixed interval (and you quoted the inspection figure)

You might now need to have an oil service done at 10,000 miles to keep the dealer and Skoda UK happy regarding warranty. Talk to them and discuss it is my advice.

Many thanks.

My original post stated what I understood to have happened based on the dash message I saw. I wasn’t trying to be misleading in any way.

I will I’ll contact the dealer tomorrow. Appreciate the admonishment though.

I don’t think it would. The car has done 6000 miles and the service indicator is saying that it’s next service is due in 9300 miles. That’s 15300 miles total if he services the car at the indicated time. That’s less than the variable service mileage, and all cars leave the factory the same. It’s up to the first owner wether they want it set to fixed or variable when collecting it.

The inspection service is just that, a visual inspection of the car, or in other words a rouse by Skoda UK to drive more cars in to their dealer network, ignore that part of the on-screen message.

An 'inspection oil service' is different, here they do actually change the oil.

As others have mentioned you have reset the service interval from variable (long life) to fixed.

- Variable - up to 20,000 miles / 24 months, the car decides based on oil quality, driving style etc.

- Fixed - 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first.

The only reset possible from the dash reverts from variable to fixed, which is what you've done here.

To be fair, you're doing 14,000 miles per year so your car will ask for a service in 10,000 miles by which time you'll be on 17,000 miles / 15 months old, about right for a first service. I'd just leave it.

Thank You.

I spoke to the local service dept of the dealer.

They have said that leaving it should be fine until first warning to get service, then can be reset to variable after that.

Does that seem sensible? I think it is.

Thanks for adivice
