Push button start/stop not recognising being pushed

Featured Replies

Hey Folks,

For about the last two weeks I’ve noticed that my 2013 Superb with Kessy and push button start isn’t always recognising when I push the start/stop button to turn the car on or off.

It happens quite randomly.  I normally just jump in foot on brake pedal (it’s a DSG) and go for a start so don’t bother allowing just the ignition to turn on.

But the last two weeks, I could press the button in some case 5 or 6 times before it starts.  Sometimes it will start the first press and then take several button pushes to switch it off or sometimes it does that it reverse.

I changed the key fob battery incase this was causing an issue but no improvement and the same symptoms with the spare key.  Full VCDS scan shows no error codes logged.

I even tried just pressing the start/stop with my foot off the brake pedal to see if it switches on the ignition but again in some cases this takes several button pushes to even achieve this.

I did a search and couldn’t find anything similar on the forum about the Superb.  One or two threads on the Octavia.

I’m guessing the switch is just failing and will eventually stop working. But I don’t want it to do this of course when I’m a few hundreds miles from home for work and then find myself stranded.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this before?  Also does anyone know is it just a straight swap of the push button, in which case I would do it myself or does it need coding to the car in anyway and require the dealers involvement?

Thanks in advance.

Stephen

I think my car started doing it when parked with the sun coming through the window and falling on the switch. It would need a firm press and worked fine. It's been 18 months since it's don it, and I no longer park where it used to happen. I would be fairly sure it's just a switch and needs no coding, based on similar systems I'm familiar with.

Quite common fault. Change the button, cost appr. 40 euros.

Typical fashion it’s has behaved it’s self since I have posted this thread! But I need to nip into the dealers to get a few service items so I’ll order a switch and change it as a precaution.

thanks for the reply’s!

Please post part number for the button, as mine is getting dodgy too.

Think it would be https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3v0905217awhs-start-button-skoda-32037.html

Yeah i know, 2 years later, but I'm in the same spot with a 2016 superb so i think i'd post it.

Thanks Shohei, but I replaced it a year ago :)

Thought i'd just leave it for others who run in to the same problem :)
