Hi all, I’ve got an 07 VRS 2.0 PD 170.

It has a lumpy idle, sometimes doesn’t quite catch when first started and needs a second attempt. Also it white smokes at idle but fine when driving and has no lack of power. 

I’m thinking the cam timing may be out but wondered if there is any way to check the torsion value without vagcom?

You really need VCDS, there’s a list of site members who could possibly help out here. 

when I discussed adjusting my scouts torsion value with my indie, they recommend changing the belt at the same time. Not much more labour cost involved.
