DMF or SMF

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently purchased a fabia vrs 2005. I noticed that the clutch is slipping in 3rd and 4th after 2k rpm. The guy I bought it from said it had been remapped bit didn't know how much extra torque or power it has now. I would want to get a new clutch and flywheel. However cost is a big factor for me as I don't have much to spend. I have seen this kit on eBay https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/SACHS-DUAL-MASS-FLYWHEEL-DMF-AND-CLUTCH-KIT-WITH-CSC-FOR-SKODA-FABIA-VRS-1-9TDI-/263397278725?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c1&_mwBanner=1 from what I have read up Sachs are a good replacement. Would a SMF be a better option than a DMF because of the extra torque?

My octavia 1.9tdi is remapped and I can make the clutch slip, but driving sympathetic to the clutch you should be ok with the standard clutch.

Some people swear by getting a SMF, others say not worth it due to the extra vibration.

My view is - if you're after saving money - is go for the standard sachs kit and just drive sympathetically (don't boot it below 2k rpms).

Whatever you decide - avoid ebay for purchasing, too many fakes on there these days. Get your garage to supply and fit too, much easier to sort out any issue afterwards then

Sorry for the late reply. I think I'll just take it easy on the clutch for now. Will save up and get a better kit. Do you guys have any suggestions for possible clutch kits?

@Abdul123 - Sachs for DIY. If you want a garage to do it, phone "A for Audi" or "Bedrock VW" and ask them.

Cheers, going to go see John at bedrock vw and see what he can do for me.

I have used a valeo SMF and clutch on the 1.9 tdi before and it felt exactly the same as it did when it had the DMF. No noise and no vibration at all.
