Drums need to have ABS bands?

Featured Replies

Hi all, first time post although I look on here a bit for info, great source and community.

So I recently changed the rear drums and pads as the handbrake was sticking on. Fitted Mintex pads and drums but since then I have the TC and ABS lights on constantly. Having looked into it today, it seems the Mintex drums don't have an ABS band therefore nothing for the sensors to detect, anyone else experienced this? As all Cities have ABS as standard (from what I've read), makes no sense for anyone to sell drums without bands?

Thanks for listening!

No bands at the drums. I know it because I just painted drums. Band might be at the wheel hub? I can't remember for sure at the moment.

You painted the OEM Skoda drums? Funny I can't remember bands on the original ones I removed but strange that the ABS light is now on. I was careful not to touch the Sensors. MOT fail now the light is on.

More important is that your ABS doesn't work at the moment I guess.

ABS ring is on the inner face of the wheel hub, as Emil says.  See pink arrow in pic below. Did you remove the hubs while replacing shoes? If so, any chance you damaged that dark coloured surface while they were off?

Thanks Wino, no I didn't remove the hubs when I changed the pads although it was all a bit tight and wiggly! Is it possible that getting the old pads on or off has damaged that area on the inner hub? Thanks

Sorry to bother you Wino but whats the material of the ABS ring and can they be repaired or replaced or is it a new hub if damaged? Thanks

I believe it's a set of little magnetic patches. I'll see if I can dig up more info from somewhere.

Much appreciated. I think I levered against the ring with a screwdriver to get some of the springs out when changing the pads.  You live and learn!

Thanks, not sure I follow that, I'll tale it to my VAG guy and see what he says.
