Scout oils - diff / gearbox? Change intervals?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just trying to confirm whether a 2011 Octavia Scout has a separate rear diff and gearbox? My mechanic changed the Haldex oil and the gearbox oil, but didn't do the rear diff! Is there one, or is the gearbox essentially the same as the diff on this car?

Come to think of it, I assume the Scout has a front diff? Does anyone know the oil change intervals on the differentials?

Thanks.

Not sure this will be of any help, but here is my experience.

It's never been brought up by the service department (my Scout is approaching 8 years and 100k full Skoda service history).

However considering they also never mentioned the haldex oil needs changing (only discovered that info on here and I had to get them to contact Skoda Cz to confirm age and mileage interval) that's not really saying anything, and it's only in the last few years that Skoda have listed the haldex oil change on their website (that's why the dealership that used to charge me £120+ now charges £65!

Skoda consider the gearbox to be sealed for life (that's what they told me when I asked for it to be changed).

There is a rear diff as I had to get it replaced under a 3rd party warranty due to it weeping/leaking.

Thanks both.

The Haldex is sorted (eventually!) and the gearbox oil (on the rear axle, connected to the Haldex unit) was done too. But it sounds like the rear diff is separate to the gearbox, so I will look into that. Cheers.

there is a front diff+gearbox+haldex+read diff     both diff's use the same oil do a search on here for oil type

Thanks CC.

Any idea on the recommended change interval? I can't find a definitive answer, just variations between every 40,000 miles and every 100,000 miles!

my understanding is 40K for the Haldex  but this is probably  MAX   my gear box oil was changed @16K (from new)  and was crap  like water(thin) and badly burned,  the diff's fared better but were also changed@16  and Haldex @approx 33 and was good apart from a minute quantity of water (condensation ?)

The gen 1 Haldex used to be 20K oil changes and filter every 40K but not sure if they have changed that
