3 x Octavia Company car owner, looking for info for family car.

Featured Replies

Good evening all, just a quick one to introduce myself. My name is Rich and I am from the Midlands.

I probably wont be hugely active on here (certainly to start with as don't personally have an Octavia of my own yet.)

Bit of brief history, I am traditionally a VW man, my Grandad had a small dealership back in the 70's-80's. So I was brought up on beetles early polos/golf and sciroccos and Type 2/campers for good measure.

I myself have an early Polo GT that has G40 engine and a few other modifications to help it go and stop, I changed the engine from a crashed G40 nearly 10 years ago. We also have a MK1 Scirocco with a 2.0 16v lump in which is a concoction of a MK2 and Mk3 Golf engine. Our family car is a MK6 Golf GTI, this is where my query begins if someone has the time to help me out.

I have a car for work as I do a lot of miles, I inherited a 1.6 (64 plate) elegance from a co-worker and it was brilliant at doing its intended job. When this came up for change I opted to foot the company car tax a touch more an had a 17 plate (pre facelift) vRS diesel and it was a fantastic car. I have since changed jobs and again opted for an Octavia, this time a facelift model with just the 150bhp diesel engine. I have found them all to be fantastic at doing the intended job and recommended them to anyone who has asked my opinion.

We have a 3 year old and are hoping in the nearish future to expand our family a touch more. I really enjoy our Golf and it has brought us great pleasure, but I cant help but think a reasonably fast estate is in order as the new family car.

My question is regarding this generation Octavia, but the pre-facelift model 13-17 I believe? I have been looking at a few and there are some lovely example about (I'm yet to look at the classified on here.) Can someone confirm if they ever made the pre-facelift in Petrol vRS guise but with the 4x4.

I know they do in the facelift, but I haven't found one pre-facelift. If I were to get genuinely serious about selling our golf and finding some money to put towards a new car, I would want it to be the spec I am after, and throwing 4x4 into it I think I would really consider.

Sorry for such a long post, for such a short question, but thought i'd put a bit into it as I am looking for genuine help.

Cheers all

Rich

Welcome.

They've never done a petrol Mk3 4x4 VRS. Diesel only. They didn't pre facelift and they don't now.

Welcome Rich.

Loads of us on here would love a 4x4 Petrol vRS. Sadly they are not made.

But I would still recommend a petrol vRS estate.

Mine is a ‘14 plate with 220 bhp and DSG, and is a brilliant family car and has sufficient go for me too.

Go go for it!

Cheers,

Dunc

..... or the 184php diesel 4x4 DSG Scout with better comfort (ind. rear suspension and higher profile 17" wheels).

As Hermit said, if you are concidering a diesel, you can get the same engine as the vRS in the non-vRS models & what you lose in styling you gain in practicality for the family (e.g. the front vRS seats cant remove the headrest or fold down the seat).

I've never owned a petrol enigne in my life but I hear a lot of good things about the smaller TSi engines.

Whilst not GTI competition I think even the 1L or 1.4 are worth a test drive if you a concidering the petrol route.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. That is a shame, I really enjoyed my diesel vRS, but having one for work and doing 30k+ miles means I do crave the petrol for our family car.

I am going to look at some petrol ones coming up, but thought a cheeky 4x4 would be nice if they existed. May end up looking at equivalent Audi with Quattro, but you get sooooooo much more for the money with a vRS. I am not a huge fan of the Golf R as they seem to be everywhere!!

Cheers all, I shall keep my eyes peeled on the classifieds!
