           My nephew has a 2003 Octavia 1.6 petrol hatchback.  I have a 195/55/15 85 H Continental Premium Contact 2 with 3mm of tread which I am considering giving him as a spare as they are not flush. His tyres are 195/65/15 91H. As I understand it my tyre will definitely fit but will give him a lower profile on that wheel. Would that give him any undesirable handling characteristics if the spare was used after a road wheel blowout? I am a bit concerned about the load bearing figure as his is higher than mine and I am wary that too could cause  problems if it was used as a road wheel. Of the two I am more concerned about the second as I think it is OK to go up but not to come down. I would welcome any thoughts from Briskoda readers.

Sit your tyre / wheel next to his one and you will see just how small it is in comparison.

 If the wheel fitment on the Octavia he has is 5x100 then the wheel should be OK.

 

The standard spare wheel tyre for a Fabia is 195/55 R15  it is a bit too small IMO for fitting with 3 195/65 R15,   i would not.

when fitting a spare limiting your speed is what should be done, 50 mph max might be correct, obviously slower if you feel that is safer, but too small is just not safe.
