Gear change

Featured Replies

Hi all,

asking what maybe a stupid question, but nothing ventured etc

is there any access to the gear change mechanism under the gear leaver gaiter ( wife drove the car for the first time in ages and commented that the change was notchy ? ) if there is is there anyway to lubricate the linkage ? if so with what ?

thanks

If the gear change is notchy mostly in one plane, then it is more likely that the cables just need adjusting. This is a simple DIY job.

Search on here for details or better still search for a video on YouTube. The method is the same across a whole range of VAG vehicles so videos of Mk1 Octavia or Golf  will show you how to do it. Even a Haynes manual.

A VAG garage would charge less than one hour labour.

Thank you very much, I'll have a look at the videos as you suggested

Here is the best video showing how to do it.

You'll probably have to remove the air filter box and battery to get to it properly but it's dead easy once you have access.
