New key

Featured Replies

Does any one know what the dealer charges to supply, cut and program a new key at all?

My A3 company car was stolen & recovered recently and the Audi garage is charging Lex £500 + vat for two keys.......

But then they are "the premium brand"

ouch!

I think it will be something similar for any brand, the key itself with only make a few €s difference to the price (metal inserts vs black plastic)

What they charge you for is the coding time because it cannot be done by anyone else.

I have heard figures of around £150 but that was a few years ago.

Extreme locks based in your area might be able to help!

One key should be about £120 from memory - had a new one from Skoda about 3 years ago.

I paid £135 a few years ago.

I've also been told that the keys will take 21 days to come from Audi in Germany.....

Maybe, as they've got Audi badges on, they're being milled from the finest unobtanium and amber by fairies and pixies.

Or as it's an insurance claim and a lease car one, we're being taken for a ride.... :speechless:

Did a quick search and stumbled on this.

Dropping bits off to friends this evening and snapped the key off in the ignition. Managed to get it started with a pair of pliers and held the bust fob against the pliers to get the immobiliser to work when turning the key.

So, only need a replacement metal bit needed. Is this still going to be in the £150 region or is that for the whole remote fob and all?

I'd imagine it should be quite a bit cheaper to just replace the blade.

Theres no electronics to buy or reprogram so just the costs of getting the blade cut to the correct one & probably you can get it done by any key-cutting place.

The blank blades are readily available on eBay.

@Gabbo

Thanks for the advice. Went to my local indy key place and he has ordered a blade. £15 for the cut and and 'a couple of quid' for the blade. Fingers crossed it's as easy as that.

Will update once he's called back after the blade comes in.

Update:

£20 all in for a new blade fitted. A little stiff at the moment but should ease with use. No coding/programming required.
