Standard drivers window issue, with a non standard issue help

Featured Replies

So my partner's roomster has had the standard electric window issue however it's gone into her local garage for them to fix it, it's come back and it's not fixed so I did some looking into it found this site :) and then found the now known door issue with them, so we got the loom from Skoda. In a very short time I had the door card off and thought it would be a relatively easy loom change.

This would have been an easy loom change however the Muppet at the garage has cut into the main loom on the inside of the car and run a wire to the door loom........I now have no way to fit the new loom as 2 of the wires in the plug to the main loom aren't there and in place 2 wires that are cut into the main loom......anoyed is an understatement

I don't want to have to get the main loom replaced so has anyone had to get any new plugs for this block of wires or would I be better to just go to a breaker's and cut that section of the loom out and resolder a new plug in place ?  If that's the better option is anyone breaking a 2007 roomster that has electric windows that can cut that section out for me

Any other thoughts appreciated

Thanks Matt

Fixed it, when they cut the wires they had left about 10mm of wire so I managed to re solder the wires to the main loom plug and then just fit the new loom as per normal, extremely lucky though as the gf was about to take it to the dealers to be fixed wonder how much a new loom would have cost to fit as I don't think they'd have messed about fixing the old plug

I would of been extremely annoyed with the original garage. You take your vehicle to a garage for a repair, not a bodge job. If they had discussed their 'solution' with you, explaining why they had to do it that way then that could be acceptable. But from your description you have just returned the vehicle body side wiring to as was, and the repair was change the door loom which you did and not them.

That's one garage for sure I would never return to.

I agree with Aubrey, to a point... We are assuming the cut 'n' shut wiring was done by this garage. If you owned the car from new and its the first time it has suffered this issue, then I'd say it was cut and dried, if you pardon the pun. If however, you have had previous owners and/pr previous repairs, it may-just may, have been done earlier, by a different cowboy. To this, I also add, a decent garage would have then informed you of the bodge with the prevision that any corrective work will need to be paid for. Its in their interest to declare any bode they see and have to ask if you want an additional back street bodge or a professional repair.

If you were sure they did this cutting though, you should really have spoken to the owner or manager and made them repair the wiring properly, at their expense. If you accepted a soldered repair ok, but if they actually cut perfectly good wires, they would have been liable to repair it with new or at least correctly functioning used wires from a breakers.

Funny, though, that they did all that and still did not fix the issue. At the very least, they owe you an apology and a refund!
