Aircon dash display. Guidance please.

Featured Replies

Loving my 'new' Mk111 Fabia but still coming to terms with everything.

When I got the vehicle I'm pretty sure on start up the Aircon button had a green light displayed. If I switched this off it seemed to default to showing this green light on next start up.

Recently in hot conditions the green light has disappeared.

If I hit the aircon button it lights orange along with the recycled air switch alongside. Pressing the aircon button again switches both off or I can just press the recycled air button to off and leave the aircon on (orange).

Aircon works fine. Does this sound normal or do I have a glitch? (This is the SE manual system.)

Had a Nissan Micra that did this years ago, drove me and the dealer to distraction. Turned out that if the air direction was set to demist the A/C came on by default. To fool the system you had to set the direction knob just short of the demist icon. There was nothing about it in the manual.

STOP PRESS

Just checked the electronic manual, the paper one is in the car and the Mrs is out in it. To quote

"If recirculated air mode is turned to demist position when the blower is on, the
cooling system is switched on. The cooling system is switched off again by
turning the air distribution control out of the demist position.
If recirculated air mode is outside demist position when the recirculating air mode
is on, the cooling system is switched on."

Looks like something may be lost in translation but basically A/C comes on automatically if the demist and recirc are set together (I think).

Thanks for your help skidpan. I think it's working normally . I've turned it all the way to the blue on Temp., knob and with aircon on the re circulation button lights up and goes off again if I back off the knob slightly.

Everything works fine but for some reason I thought the aircon button had been showing a green light previously. It's not uncommon for me to be totally mistaken these days :blush.

Yep, yours is working fine mate. Mine is the same. You soon get used to it.

Ummm, yeah, I think the light in the A/C button has always been amber, not green.

To clarify another point above: there are two situations where the A/C will switch on automatically.

Firstly, when you turn the air outlet knob to the "Demist" position, A/C switches on.

And second, when you turn the temperature control back to cold (unheated), again the A/C switches on (regardless of the position of the air outlet knob).

In either case it's annoying and somewhat unnecessary,

My old head is confusing me (again)!! I did notice the aircon light would appear even though I hadn't selected aircon so thanks for your info. It seems I may have altered the air direction and activated the aircon without realising. It's my first Mk111 and certainly operates differently.  For some reason I had it in my head it was a green light but as I said above I can be totally mistaken these days. Thanks for your help Shen'.

Well, the back lighting is green ;)

I don't mind the A/C coming on by itself on demist, but doing it when I put it to cold is annoying. Especially when it also puts on recirculation. If I wanted that, I'd press the button! With the demister it's different, as the A/C system will dehumidify the air which helps demisting the windscreen. I'm also fairly sure that the A/C comes on with the demister even if you turn off the A/C with the button.

Hey! I agree there mate, Why not just have the bl***y knobs and switches just designed to what you want them to do and a bit less of the " mind of their own" stuff?

Harry

Absolutely. Or at least let us turn it off through the Bolero!
