Sat Nav update

Featured Replies

Firstly, I must appologise for bringing this topic up again.  I know it's been covered many times and I've read the threads on how to update the sat nav sd card but it's always seemed a bit daunting with some saying that they managed without problem and others that have had problems and given up.  But I've decided to bite the bullet and give it a try with a bit of help from yourselves.  My system is Amundsen which I assume is mib2 as it doesn't have a cd player.  The information shows ECE 1 2017.  When I put my vin into the Skoda portal it shows ECE 2018 available for my Octavia.  I've started the download which seems to be going ok and looks like it'll take almost 2 hours.  Says 12gb download.  I've removed the sd card from the car and connected to my pc.  When I've opened the card  it shows 2 folders.  One marked 00 and the other marked EEC.  Do I save these two folders to my pc and if all goes pear shaped can I just reinstall them back onto the card ?  Do I then delete these two folders ?  If so, do I then unzip the entire download to the now blank sd card ?  Assuming that my thinking is correct can I then just refit the sd card back into the car and it should pick up the new sat nav data ?

Yes, you can copy those folders to your PC as a backup, just in case anything goes wrong.

You can then delete the folders from the SD card or, if you prefer, format the SD card using "FAT32" File system and "4096 bytes" Allocation unit size.

If you are using the Skoda "downloader" program (and it sounds like you are) then it will eventually prompt you for the location of the SD card for "unpacking" and then automatically unzip and copy the files to the SD card for you. You don't need to manually unzip anything at all. I think I got a warning about the SD Card not being empty, or something like that, but I just continued as prompted and it all went ok.

Yes, put the SD card back in the car and switch on the satnav. It might take just a little longer to startup than normal, but you don't need to anything else.

Thanks for that.  It's still showing 27 mins to for the download.  Should I have the sd card connected ready for the downloader to unzip staight into ?

Probably too late with this answer but, yes have the SD card ready to for when the download finishes

Everything has went as you said so far. It's unpacking to the sd card and seems to be going ok.  Slowly !

Mine took about half an hour to unpack. Not much you can do but wait !

Hopefully all should work ok for you

BOD20.............thank you so much for your help and encouragement.  I did exactly as you said and I've just fitted the sd card back into the car amazingly it works !!  It's something I've put off for a while but I'm pleased I've done it and won't be worried to do the next update when it's available.  Thanks again

It's good when things work the way they are supposed to !!

I think the Amundsen MIB2 update is quite straightforward compared to some of the others.
