Featured Replies

Exactly Stuart, they are good b- might get one for the hell of it - just hope that a tumble dryer will fit in the boot :)

Having looked in the boot I think a Laundrette might fit in it

Id go for the Passat over the Superb, which is outdated now...

Plus the residuals will be better on the VW than the Skoda...

Have you considered a used 'new' Audi A6 Avant?

Don't know what sort of mileage/model you would get.....

cheers

Dazz

Macclesfield Audi have got an A4 2.0 TDI SE Avant, 8K on the clock for under 20K, or the same car, but in S-Line trim (bigger wheels etc) in red for 21K

If the A6 Avant is your bag, you're going to be looking at mileage just under 2oK mark to come in on budget.........at least from franchise.

I do like the new A4 avant too, but has to be right spec (all the s-line stuff), otherwise i dont think it looks like what you pay for.........if you get my drift.

Don't think high mileage puts people off buying cars now so I think you should still consider the residuals bit.

Get a 5 series Beemer estate or the A6 avant.

Too expensive in that I would lose too much eg

A6 3.0TDI 35k OTR, resale after 3 years with 150k on the clock approx 12k - I lose 23k of my money

407SW 136 Executive 20k OTR, resale after 3 years with 150k on the clock approx 3.5k - I lose 16.5k of my money

That 6.5k would make a nice deposit on the next car or a couple of holidays or a leach of an ex-wife :D

I agree.. But I thought you were ok with nearly new? I would rather spend

Signums are very under-rated!....make sure you buy it used though!...coh blimey do they lose money:rofl: ...go for the 1.9CDTi 150bhp much better performance / economy balance than the 3.0!

V50 2.0D's are cracking cars but not all that spacious if your looking for a roomy estate you may want to turn your attentions to the Accord Tourer 2.2CTDi now thats a proper car with proper dealers who know what 'customer care' is all about!...while we are talking japanese....the Avensis Tourer is under-rated too!

Another slight odd-ball which gets overlooked is the Seat Altea..get that with the 2.0TDI from the VAG stable coupled to the DSG gearbox and you have a useful car!

the only good value audi's/bmw's IMO are the ones around

Did you mean Saab's customer service was a bit ****e? ...What about a 9-3 estate? - well nice looking imo

Mondeo ST TDCI. You can get 'em dirt cheap because it's due to be replaced. Very comfortable and you can't grumble at 400 NM of torque. Looks nice as an estate too. I'm currently looking for an ST220, but I do a bit less mileage than you do!

I know it's french but the Laguna is a Bargain Used or even the Vel Satis

Flame Suit on and Ready :)

Bought anything yet then?

Nope, not yet.

I'm going to keep mine until it is 30 months old or has 150k on the clock, whichever comes sooner. Anyways, I'll soon have a sporty little 2 seater convertible that I can use at weekends. Collect it from the factory in Germany on Monday

The above menas that I can have a really boring sensible car for my use. Current faves are: Mazda 5 2.0TDI Sport, Civic CTDI and Citroen C5 estate 136 auto.

Nah, BMW don't let you do factory collect. The only ones that do are Porsche and Merc.

Doing the factory collect as you pay the standard £500 OTR charge as per any new car. Instead of popping to your local dealer you are flown business class to Germany, collected from the airport and taken to your hotel (ours is the Hilton). Stay at the hotel on a dinner b&B basis. Get collected from the hotel in the morning, driven to the factory. Do the paperwork, get a guided tour of the factory and then get given your car. You then have up to 10 days to make your way home, they pay for your choice of channel crossing. Then you take it to your dealer for UK plates and road tax to be put on the car.

So here's the choice - go to Sheffield and collect from dealer or go to Germany and collect from factory. Same price. What do you choose? :D

I'd go the mazda, but i dont like the new civic. I think a good chioce not going with a passat. My sister took one out for a test drive and three bits of trim fell off in the hour they had it. Now getting a hyundai. German cars do not seem to be as reliable as they where and that includes beemers.

Get an MG ZT-T CDTi for about a quid ;)

No, seriously you can get them for circa £17k "new" at the mo, and they can be tuned to 180bhp - my brother had one with the tuning box on running that. They handle well and are very nice to drive. BMW engined and look good too. Was about the most reliable car MGR ever produced.

Good suggestion there Mr Pond. The warranty on my car usually lasts about 5 minutes anyway so no harm done there

Which brother? Important question 'cos if I start acting like Rich the "cost" of owning an MG could be waaaaaaay to high :D

I would have thought that a visit to Sheffield would be the first choice  maybe on a Wednesday too.... matching cars and all that

Btw are you getting blonde highlights before you go? :D

What about the PD170 Octy II VRS Estate.

You get the RS fun and the Derv economy.

(un)fortunately it is not my car, it's the other half's. She picked it, chose the colour and the options and is paying for it. I just get to clean it, drive it back from Europe and will be allowed to drive it some weekends. She has said that I can take it on a Ring trip too

If you are going to clock the miles up and want minimum loss, what about a 6month to year old citroen, or even a new one if the dealer will cut you the right deal (they usually do).

A C5 2.2 HDI is a great long distance cruiser and has already lost most of it's value by the time it has hit a year old :) C4 is supposed to be good if somewhat quirky :)

That's why the C5 136 HDI estate was on the list :D It's huge, has all the goodies, can get it with an auto-box (I'm fed up of sitting in traffic jams) and at 6 months will be quite cheap to buy. Like the suspension too. I know it will be no fun to drive, but I have other options in that area (the SLK, an old 325i that I can "borrow" and the possibility of a bike engined Westfield :D ). It ain't for fun, it is a tool for travelling the motorways and for leisure (biking, climbing walking and camping).

Sorry thought it was only the 407 you put up

You say that but once you are used to the suspensions you can really pile it into corners and it will just grip and grip and grip. I had an old BX 19RD estate and once I got used to it i could loose other cars on the corners (Ok so they would be up my **** again when accleration was needed to to the non turbo diesel).

Great motorway cruiser, I miss that suspension, and the C5 have sport mode too. It's just a shame they don't do a C5 activa, as the Xantia activa was an amazing car to drive :)
