Ping when starting engine

Featured Replies

About a week ago, the car started giving a warning ping when I turn the ignition key. No warning indicator stays on after the normal engine start, everything seems to be in working order, but I get that ping every time. Anyone encountered something like that?

Are you sure there's no wrench in instrument cluster? It would mean service soon.

That’s the service indicator

No, there is no wrench light on on the board. Could it be that the light LED has gone out?

It would make perfect sense that those nincompoops where I took the car for service didn't reset the service timer. Authorized Skoda service point my foot, they looked and acted like a bunch of fools.

Now what? Can I just ignore the ping and drive it like this? Or are there going to be some sort of consequences?

Does the word ‘INSP’ come up where the mileage normally is ?,if so it is the service reminder.

I'm sorry, you were right. Today I paid closer attention and there indeed is INSP written when engine starts, they didn't reset the timer in the service point.

So now what? Can I just ignore the warning or do I have to take it to the service again to have this taken care of?

Have a look on YouTube, there are videos on there showing you how to reset the service reminder using the two buttons on the instrument binnacle.

I held down the trip reset button if my memory serves me right

Yep got this one myself! It started nearly 2 years ago after a service and now goes ping every time I switch on. After 2 years I got use to it and it doesn't seem to cause any problem.

  • Turn off the ignition
  • Press and hold the SET “0.0" button, and turn the ignition switch to the “On”position, but do not start the engine
  • When INSP appears on the display, release the trip-odometer button.
  • Hit the SET “0.0" button again to confirm reset

Found this after some light googling
