Two possible problems.....

Featured Replies

Octy vRS, 13 months old, 28000 miles.

Left in the car park yesterday. On driving out I drove though a large puddle (4" deep) then up to a T junction. Put my foot on the brakes and though "oh ****, this isn't going to stop". Pressed harder and stopped, so put it down to the water. Drove home, didn't really notice if the brakes we're different (so they can't have been too bad!!).

SWMBO gets in this morning, reverses car on full left lock. I was stood in the house and heard a grating noise - similar but louder to when you have a stone in between the disk and pad, but louder. She gets to the first junction and experiences the same issue with the brakes that I did last night. Pulls the car up, presses the brake pedal a couple of times and drives off gingerly to test the brakes. They seem ok, so I tell her to take it easy.

So, any ideas as to the two problems and if they're related?

I was thinking perhaps a leaking servo, that's losing the vacuum for the brakes, but not sure about the other.

She'll be back (that's SWMBO - i hate car's refered to as she) in an hour so I can go out and look for obvious things, but would like pointers on what to look for (on the car :naughty:).

TIA

Don't know about the squishy brake pedal but the grating noise from the brakes in reverse is a common problem apparenly it is now a dealer fix. There are plenty of other threads if you search around giving plenty of details

Sorry - I didn't make clear - this was from the front and only on full lock. The reverse thing seems to come from the rear and lock isn't an issue.

The good news is that we seem to be back to normal this morning. Perhaps it was just water in the brakes - lets hope so (and also that I don't find out to the contrary when approaching a line of stationary traffic!!).

Thanks for the reply though.

Hi

Just joined BRISKDA and was nosing around for the first time. Just got a 4X4 hatch so I haven't got much room to pontificate at the moment but I have had the 'noise on full lock' problem with another car. It was a bearing of the steering hydraulic pump objecting to the pressure on full lock.

I hope this is a pointer in your case but if it isn't at least I've broken the ice on this forum.
