Gearbox problem

Featured Replies

My vrs has knackered its gearbox. I've had a replacement fitted, but wonder what could have happened. At the circled area on the attached photo (of a non-knackered one..), the round alloy plate/cover has sheared off. Any ideas?

I think a bearing sits inside the bit you have circled. I had one fail there on my gearbox a couple of years ago. It made a massive bang when it went and actually split the casing at that point. Possibly a similar thing has happened to yours.

Yes, there was a big bang. Still don't know what caused it! Bloody unreliable Skoda. 148000 miles and something does wrong!
