Non-original Bluetooth module - how do I code it?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Recently acquired a 2009 Superb Elegance with the Columbus system. My OBD11 app is telling me that the Bluetooth module is not coded, although it connects to my phone alright and I can make calls and use my phone book through the MFD.

So, I investigated my Bluetooth module and it's a 3C8 035 730 C. I've done a bit of research and it seems this unit was a later unit which has music streaming capability. It seems to have been wired in correctly and my Media screen has the Bluetooth option but it's greyed out.

So, my question is: if this unit was coded properly woud I be able to stream music via Bluetooth?

And is VCDS the only way to do this?

Thanks in advance

Adam

I'm not sure what level of functionality your OBD device has so I dunno if it'll do coding. Certainly VCDS can do it. However, you say it's been wired in correctly? Your 2009 Elegance was a mono Bluetooth unit, so for stereo streaming you'll need a pair of extra wires from the Bluetooth unit to the Columbus for the second channel used in stereo.

I've got an OBDeleven which does have long coding and adaptations. I've tried to enable media streaming but it's giving me error messages. Think I need a kind soul with VCDS to be sure I'm doing it right.

Re the wiring, there are no unused connections on the Bluetooth module so I'm presuming there is a stereo connection. Guess the only way to be sure it's to look at the back of the head unit. Which raises another question: I need a schematic of the connections on the back of the unit.

Thanks for your help man

There's a wiring schematic on the top of the Columbus. However, you say there's no unused connections on the Bluetooth? There's a 54pin block connector which clips into the side of the Bluetooth module, and less than 10 are used. If the installer just clipped the new Bluetooth kit into the old wiring loom without adding the extra wires then it won't work properly.
