I have my car in a garage getting a full top end rebuild and while the turbo was off I had a quick look at it. I noticed some damage to the blades and the shaft had quite a bit of play in it. I have had no signs of the turbo going bad while it was on the car. Turbo is a pd150 hydrid mdx376 

 

My question is what is classed as reasonable wear and tear? Should I start saving for a new turbo? 

A turbo shouldn't really have damage to the blades. That's signs of impact damage or there's so much play it may hit the housing. It might be worth sending it off to get rebuilt. Will be cheaper than a whole new turbo as as it's off the car atm there will only be a small amount of extra labour. 

There were no signs the blades were touching the housing. Just a small amount of damage to the top face of the blades. 

 

I have looked at the pd150 hybrid Cartridge for sale on ebay. Would these be a direct replacement? 

No, yours Is a hybrid, so it's technically a modified pd150. Larger compressor wheel (normally billet), shaft bearing etc. Hence why it would need to be set of to a turbo company like turbo dynamics, turbo technic or AET Motorsports etc

 

Edit - didn't see you put hybrid cartridge. Still send the turbo off. I wouldnt trust a eBay cartridge.
