Fabia MK2 Estate interior from.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Just wanted to ask if anyone knows how this part is called and if it can be purchased anywhere. My Fabia had had a hands-free kit fitted before I bought it, I have removed it from the car as I wasn't even using it. Upon removal though I found that part of the interior trim is missing as the person who was fitting the kit had never had put it back in. It essentially is the part under the glove box as in pictures, where the parts hang down. Not that visible, but I'm quite ocd with my car and it bothers me quite a bit.

Is it the bit that covers the cabin filter?

Pretty much I think, it's directly above the leg area for the passenger.

I had the exact same issue once, after a service from the main dealer!!! I didn't notice for ages so too late to grumble. I even sowed on a velcro patch and stuck the other side of velcro to the cabin filter's case, so as to stop it drooping as it had been kicked down and bent etc, most likely by techies or driving examiners with size 12 boots. I still have to replace it and I am sure it will quieten the cabin a small amount upon re-fitting. Mine looked a bit denser then yours, perhaps as its a diesel. The parts you have hanging actually look like extra padding, rather then the panel. Some panels though, are most definitely thinner and made of a kind of blown polystyrene, which will almost certainly break in time.

Judging from the radio its a lateish model so the bit you are talking about is a kind of semi floppy carpet style material that once its been removed (to access the pollen filter) never seems to be capable of being put back without it falling down into the footwell the following week. So on most cars and several attempts it gets binned.

The earlier cover with an expanded polystyrene construction is better but is invariably broken as it needs to be bent to fit/remove and polystyrene is not good at bending.

The sound deadening mat hanging down in your picture should actually be stuck up out of the way, but as in our car, insufficient double side sticky was used.

Some DIY called for methinks?

Thanks for the answer. Well, I cannot find anything that would fit there nicely, my wife complaints about the noise when the air in on. Would anybody have a picture how the original part there looks like?

This is what I had util someone forgot to replace it. some had poy-wotsit ones which were lighter.

Brill! Was just a little hard to make out the number on my somewhat lacklustre screen. (Or is it my blinky-blind-eyes)!

I dont suppose you could do the same with the right hand side part? A pick and part number? That site seemed vague as to what was left side/right side and LHD/RHD

I just contacted local dealer, they ordered the part, following that number but they seemed confused as they say that number is right hand side part, although you can clearly see the 082 digits, where they say left side is 081 so when it arrives, I will collect it and report back as to if its the correct piece. I am after both sides anyway as the right was removed from new, by He Man's dual controls fitter and the left, during a service! Why do people "Forget" To replace parts? I get the dual control fitter may have had to modify the panel to fit but still, they are paid to do a job, not throw parts in the bin!

I agree with you. I think its just a bit odd, though. I will most likely get both sides but want the main, left one first. The right is gonna be a harder jiggle to fit. I am hoping to get the call tomorrow, (Monday) So I can report back about it then...

...So, I ordered, picked up and fitted the new cover. Nice. Does indeed quieten down the cabin to perhaps a small degree. (Leaning over from left to right, sitting in the passenger seat, engine running as I have no cover on the right). Extra stuff like galson had stuffed up there might even help cut more noise!  From new, the mat looks a lot stiffer then the one in xman's picture, probably as it has been removed a number of times to change the pollen filter.

If it helps, galson, the longer edge with the kind of fingers is the upper edge. Put the lower edge in first, then bending/flexing gently, the upper end sits on the ledge just under the glovebox. The more gentle you are with it, the longer it will last as when they get floppier, they tend to get kicked or knocked and can fall down. This is why some owners might throw them away as well as techies not replacing them.

The good news here, is man's part number is correct, despite even me being told by the parts guy it was for the right hand side, it is indeed the correct part number and the icing on the cake is that it only costs £5.75, including VAT. I ordered it friday, it came in mid-morning tuesday. I asked the guy to order me the right hand side one, after checking they were the correct covers.

Changed once, by the dealer. Wouldn't be surprised if it was swapped from another vehicle.

Thanks very much for the number and pick, though! I have been meaning to do this for ages... I do my own filter now so no need for it to go walkies!

Ya, keep everybody away from that cover now, and change the cabin filter yourself I say, or it's gonna be lost again. Need to get to it myself, it's just other things are in the way with a baby coming in four weeks ;)

Get a proper nights sleep then... It won't happen again for sixteen years!

Haha, you're telling me! I've been working the night shift for the last 6 years ;)

...The right hand side one came today. Same price as the other side..  £5.75.

I am going to have a quick look a installing it now. Looks less effective at blocking sound from the engine to the cabin then the left hand side, due to more cut-outs for the pedals, steering column, etc but it will still be nice to have the "Finished" Look rather then a gaping hole.Again, man's part number was bang on!

Well, I thought fitting the right hand side was going to be difficult as I have dual controls that connect to the clutch and brake pedal. However, I only had to remove the tensioner spring from both and the part fitted very easily. I thought it would need holes cut in and as the righty is quite thin in places, to go around the pedal levers and steering column. I expected it to droop afterwards. No cutting needed and my idea for if it does eventually droop (As others might have done), Is to drill very small holes, about 1cm apart, near each end of the length of the panel, fairly central along the length, another two in the centre and then another two sets of  holes, mid way between these holes. (5 pairs of holes). I would then get a thin but strong length of semi-ridged pole, (5mm os so thin, maybe kite frame type of thing). The same length as the cover and use thin plastic cable ties, to fix this to the inside of the cover, so as to be unseen. This will keep it straight but will a small amount of flexibility to install and remove as and when... If the holes and cable ties are done well enough, they will be extremely difficult to see and will almost certainly stand the test of time. It might be feasible to do a similar trick on the left, if it has gone limp but running the poles from top to bottom rather then side to side and perhaps using two or three shorter poles. Flexibility will almost certainly be key, here as the left is removed more frequently to gain access to the cabin filter!

If anyone is just reading this, how many people out there have found either the left or right cover either keeps falling down or is already missing/has been removed by yourself? It would be interesting to know if techies throw them away at regular intervals, rather then replace them...

Changed the cabin filter on mine last month. Cover is missing. As it's not really visible without getting down under there, I haven't ordered a new one.
