How OK is it to drive a DSG with low oil

Featured Replies

As in need to drive about 5 miles on the flat, to the mechanic.

No symptoms, but I  first noticed the wet spot on the concrete on Friday past and pulled the undertray off today to investigate, (the car was only driven 10 miles or so yesterday).

however I can borrow a trailer and backload her, but iffen I dont need too   .   .   .

Are you talking engine oil loss, not really an issue if enough oil in to drive it a bit further,

other than if it loses more, or is it from the DSG that has lost oil?

**Do not drive a DQ200 DSG / 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch that has lost oil.**

I take it if there is oil lost this is at the Mechatronic Control Unit, but no matter where it is get it trailered.

?

Did your DSG get service Campaign '34F7' carried out any time from 2014 on to now.

The synthetic oil changed to mineral and a software update.

?

Is there a sticker in the spare tyre well showing the Service campaign done.  '34F7' on it and a date and dealer stamp?

Offski,

Thanks for the very prompt reply.

Yes it is the mechatronic unit leaking oil past a spot rusted tin cover.

Yes I got the synthetic oil changed to mineral oil, and presumably the software upgrade, but no visible sticker in the spare wheel well.

And OK I will trailer her, or even get her collected.

cheers

So James just phoned,

the Mechatronic unit is not leaking due to rust, but rather blowing copious fluid out the breather,

thoughts please?

Furthur update re DSG fluid loss, James figures it is an internal seal that has failed,

he is waiting for  feedback from a VW orientated mechanic mate, but best case is still  gearbox out and away for specialist attention.

And in a car worth, guessing £3k, looking like I am kinda between a rock and a hard place.

Like at 120,000 miles should I be looking at replacing the clutch packs, if the box is out anyway?,

but presumably a visual inspection should be able to judge the life left in the clutch packs?

sigh
